Perfect for your Richmond Vacation
Spend your Richmond vacation or weekend getaway in a room decorated in honor of VMI Cadet Thomas Garland Jefferson, who grew up at Winterham Plantation.
The New Market Cadet Room includes a queen-sized foam-topped bed, private sitting area, remote-controlled gas fireplace, cable television, and a private bath with a pedestal sink and roomy shower. Large windows to the West and South give light and pastoral views of scenic Virginia.
The New Market Cadet Room is named for Thomas Garland Jefferson, the son of John Garland Jefferson, who was a student at VMI during the Civil War. When cadets were called to fight the Union Army at New Market, they distinguished themselves by routing the Federal troops, but seventeen-year-old Tom and several of his classmates gave their lives in the effort. His portrait serves as a reminder of the family's sacrifice.
